Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

The city of Santo Domingo can be seen as far as the eye can see when one is standing on the steps of the Columbus Monument.
The government builds apartment houses for professionals like teachers, doctors, and dentists. They pay reasonable rent. The non-professional people have no such luck and make do as best they can.
There are large numbers of slums. The government has built walls (above) and planted trees (above right) to camouflage them and help beautify the city.
A link has been provided to the pictures of The National Aquarium, a special cave, and the monument constructed to house the tomb and ashes of Christopher Columbus.
